GJEPC's IIJW 2011 Inauguration
 
Sonam Kapoor & Shri Subodh Kant Sahai Inaugurate 2nd Edition Of IIJW 2011

The India International Jewellery (IIJW) Week, organized by the Gem and Jewellery Promotion Council (GJEPC) was inaugurated today in the presence of Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Hon'ble Minister of Tourism, Govt. Of India along with IIJW Brand Ambassador, Sonam Kapoor at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. This is Asia's first Jewellery Week aimed at re-enforcing India's position as the Global leader in Jewellery Design. IIJW will see many glamorous models, high profile Indian celebrities and much sought after International celebrities sashay on the ramp displaying the designs of 35 designers/design houses. Traditionally, India's legacy for ornate jewellery has been known for thousands of years. However, it is only in the recent past that our designs have gained acceptance owing to their aesthetic blend of heritage design entwined with contemporary sensibilities according India a rightful place as a leader in design in the world markets. This event is a milestone event to establish this worldwide position and catapult India as THE "Jewellery Design Destination" for Asia and the rest of the world. IIJW 2011 is also a celebration and re-iteration of India's World leadership as the largest exporter and fastest manufacturer. Besides establishing India as a design destination, IIJW is an event which will unfold the season trends for the jewellery markets. Rajiv Jain the Chairman of GJEPC says "With the tremendous success of the first India International Jewellery Week the stage is now set for 2011, promising to be bigger in grandeur with amazing exciting talents and creativity displayed for the Indian & International market. This year, we will be graced by the presence of Fabrice Martelli of Boucheron & Yasmina Khoudja of Harry Winston who will be a part of our esteemed guest list. IIJW is a milestone event set to establish Brand India as the as THE "Jewellery Design Destination" for Asia and the rest of the world. My team at the Council, industry members, IIJW 2011 participants, friends from the media, it's not only an honor but a privilege to welcome you all to witness history in the making".

Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Minister of State for Tourism said "Jewellery has been one of the many fascinating attractions for foreigners visiting India, besides the myriad tourist spots that our country offers. I am happy to announce the celebration of India as the global destination for jewellery design at the India International Jewellery Week 2011 which is poised to take the country to greater heights of recognition as a country which is the largest manufacturer and supplier of diamonds in the world, and at the same time one that forecasts trends in Jewellery designs for the International markets. I would like to extend my congratulations to Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council for having conceptualized and created this global event and once again provided the necessary impetus to the Indian Gems & Jewellery Industry".

IIJW 2011 is going to be one glamorous destination with a lot of international celebrities attending and set the mercury sizzling with their presence giving the event the international edge that it so covets. The event will not only showcase established design houses and designers, but will also give an opportunity to new talented designers to showcase their skill set. The shows will be choreographed by leading Indian choreographers Lubna Adamns, Achla Sachdev and Elric Dsouza.
